We Are Welcoming

Bet Tikvah welcomes all who wish to participate in our services and activities. We are a House of Hope for all.

We Are Queer-Centric

Many readings in our prayer book are inclusive of LGBT individuals, but often resonate with all who attend.

We Are Independent

In order to make all worshippers feel welcome, Bet Tikvah is not affiliated with any of the major branches of Judaism.

Articles about Gender, Sexuality, and Judaism

Academy for Jewish Religion logo

The Academy for Jewish Religion is based in Yonkers, NY. The Academy publishes G’vanim, "an online journal dedicated to academic engagement with the past, present, and future of Judaism." In 2019, G’vanim published a set of articles exploring the "intersections between gender, sexuality, and Judaism." It looks to be a fascinating collection! The titles of the articles are:

  • "Spinning a Rainbow Thread: Reflections on Writing Queer Jewish History"
  • "Is Judaism ‘Sex Positive’? Understanding Trends in Recent Jewish Sexual Ethics"
  • "Educating American Modern Orthodox Children about Sex"
  • "Traditional Sources Against Prohibiting Trans Jews from Transitioning Gender"
  • "A Profile of LGBT Jewish Households"

  • About Bet Tikvah
